Pentol Bakar atau Bakso Bakar

Last Update : August 29th,2025 : 23:44 PM

When you think of Indonesian street food, one of the first things that probably comes to mind is bakso those chewy, savory meatballs that are usually served in a comforting bowl of broth. But if you really want to try something a little different, a little smoky, and a whole lot flavorful, then you need to meet Bakso Bakar the grilled version of this beloved classic.

Bakso Bakar literally means “grilled meatball,” and just like it sounds, these meatballs don’t take the usual route of boiling in soup. Instead, they’re skewered and grilled over charcoal or an open flame, giving them a unique smoky aroma and a slightly crispy, charred exterior that’s impossible to resist. Imagine that familiar bouncy texture of bakso, but with a subtle caramelized edge and a flavor that makes your taste buds perk up instantly.

One of the coolest things about Bakso Bakar is the sauce magic that comes with it. Depending on where you grab it, you might find it slathered in sweet soy sauce (known locally as kecap manis), drizzled with spicy sambal, or even brushed with garlic butter. Some adventurous vendors add peanut-based sauces or a hint of lime for extra zing. And to make things even more delicious, it’s often topped with fried shallots, fresh herbs, or extra chili flakes for that perfect combination of crunch, freshness, and heat.

Bakso Bakar is also a popular street food, especially at night markets or small roadside stalls. Watching the skewers sizzle over flames while the aroma drifts through the air is half the fun it’s almost hypnotic! Plus, the grilled version has a spicier, bolder flavor compared to traditional boiled bakso, which is why many locals describe it as “addictive.” Some even say it’s “infamous” because it can be so spicy and smoky that you remember it long after your last bite.

If you’re new to Indonesian cuisine, Bakso Bakar is a great way to experience something familiar yet exciting. It’s often served with lontong (compressed rice cakes) or just plain steamed rice, making it a satisfying meal on the go. And because of its popularity on social media, many bakso bakar stalls have become trendy spots for food lovers, with people snapping photos of the skewers over glowing coals before taking that first delicious bite

. In short, Bakso Bakar is the perfect example of how a humble dish can transform into a street food superstar. It keeps the chewy, comforting essence of traditional bakso but adds smoky, charred, and often spicy flavors that make it stand out. Whether you’re wandering a night market in Jakarta, Bandung, or Yogyakarta, or just curious about Indonesian food, Bakso Bakar is definitely worth trying. Once you take that first bite, you’ll understand why it’s both loved and slightly “infamous” among locals it’s simply unforgettable.

So next time you’re craving something that’s comforting yet exciting, think beyond the soup bowl and give Bakso Bakar a try. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you

Cara penyajiannya pun teramat mudah.

Selera setiap orang memang berbeda beda (Asep Haryono)
