I still vividly remember attending the 2009 International Youth Conference (IYC) in Banten and Bandung, West Java.
I still vividly remember attending the 2009 International Youth Conference (IYC) in Banten and Bandung, West Java.
The conference was held in two locations: Banten and Bandung. Around 162 young men and women from 22 countries gathered from September 29 to October 2, 2009. In Banten, we stayed at the 5-star Marbella Hotel in Anyer, Serang Regency, while in Bandung our accommodation was the historic Savoy Homann Hotel.

Both venues were luxurious and elegant, and I feel grateful to have experienced them. Even more remarkable, everything was provided free of charge, fully supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, led at the time by Dr. Adhyaksa Dault. The Minister of National Education was Prof. Dr. Bambang Sudibyo, and the Governor of Banten was Ratu Atut Chosiyah though she was later implicated in corruption and eventually replaced by the well-known former Indonesian film star, Rano Karno.
Curious about what it’s like to stay at the Savoy Homann Hotel look like in Bandung?
Hotel Savoy Homann in Bandung would have endless stories to tell. Standing gracefully on Jalan Asia Afrika, right in the heart of the city, this heritage hotel is more than just a place to stay it’s a living witness to history, architectural beauty, and Bandung’s evolution over more than a century. For travelers who love mixing culture, history, and comfort, Savoy Homann isn’t just a hotel. It’s a destination in itself.
Unfortunately, I am not discussing about that, I wanna tell you something more tasty. Yess . That is food, food, and food
When people think of Hotel Savoy Homann, they usually picture its legendary Art Deco façade, its role in the Asian-African Conference of 1955, or the famous world leaders who once stayed there. But here’s something that often gets overlooked: this hotel is also a culinary destination. Step inside, and you’ll find dining experiences that mix local heritage, international flavors, and timeless hospitality all wrapped up in the charm of one of Bandung’s most iconic landmarks.
So if you ever check in or even if you’re just dropping by for a meal here’s what awaits your taste buds at Hotel Savoy Homann Bandung.
Garden Restaurant: Where Cultures Meet on a Plate
The Garden Restaurant is the heart of Savoy Homann’s dining experience. Located on the lobby floor, it’s spacious, welcoming, and designed to feel like a crossroads of cultures.
Breakfast here is an event in itself. Guests are greeted by a generous buffet spread that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a global food market. On one side, you’ll find local favorites: nasi goreng, mie goreng, nasi tutug oncom, and soto Bandung (the city’s signature beef soup with radish). On another, you’ll see eggs cooked to order, pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, and even pasta. It’s one of those rare places where you can have satay skewers and croissants on the same plate and no one will raise an eyebrow.

But the Garden Restaurant isn’t just about breakfast. Lunch and dinner offer a mix of Indonesian, Asian, and Western options. And if you visit on the right night, you might catch their all-you-can-eat BBQ dinners, where chefs grill chicken, beef, seafood, and skewers right in front of you. The smell of smoke, the sizzle on the grill, and the laughter of guests enjoying plates of freshly cooked food make it a must-try dining experience.
Sidewalk Resto: A Blend of West and East
If you’d rather watch the city life go by while you eat, head to the Sidewalk Resto, which faces Jalan Asia Afrika. This place has a more modern and stylish feel, perfect for lunch with friends, a casual dinner, or even a quick coffee.
The menu leans toward Western comfort foods but isn’t shy about blending in Asian influences. You’ll find steaks, pasta, teriyaki chicken, and even Japanese-inspired dishes that appeal to both international travelers and locals who want something familiar yet different.
And because of its location, the Sidewalk Resto gives you one of the best dining views in Bandung: people-watching on one of the city’s most historic streets.
☕ Batavia Café: Coffee with Character
For coffee lovers, the Batavia Café is a cozy little gem inside the hotel. Bandung has a growing reputation for its café culture, but Batavia has been serving up West Java coffee long before it became trendy.
The café specializes in local beans, brewed fresh to highlight their rich, earthy flavors. Pair your cup with cakes, light snacks, or Indonesian sweets, and you’ll have the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. It’s also a quiet escape if you need a break from the busier parts of the hotel.
Pool Bar: Fresh, Fun, and Family-Friendly
Sometimes, all you want is a light bite or a refreshing drink while enjoying the pool. That’s where the Pool Bar comes in. Here, the menu focuses on snacks, juices, mocktails, and easy-to-share foods.
It’s not a place for heavy dining, but it’s perfect if you’re traveling with family. Parents can relax with a cool drink while the kids enjoy splashing in the warm-water pool a thoughtful detail that makes the hotel especially welcoming for families.
A Journey Through Indonesian Flavors
Of course, no stay in Bandung is complete without diving into local cuisine, and Savoy Homann delivers. Their buffets and themed menus regularly highlight Indonesian classics that keep guests coming back for more.
Here are just a few standouts you might encounter:
• Soto Bandung – A light yet flavorful beef soup with slices of radish, unique to the city.
• Gepuk – Sweet and savory Sundanese-style marinated beef, slow-cooked until tender.
• Perkedel Kentang – Golden-brown potato fritters that are dangerously addictive.
• Cumi Saus Mangga – Squid cooked in a tangy mango sauce that balances sweet and sour beautifully.
• Perkedel Jagung – Corn fritters that add a crispy crunch to any plate.
And don’t skip dessert. Options like Belgian chocolate cake or tropical fruits make for a satisfying end to any meal.
Themed Buffets and Seasonal Specials
What makes dining at Savoy Homann extra fun is their love for special events and themed menus. Depending on when you visit, you might catch:
• Quick Lunch Buffets with rotating themes — Japanese, Chinese, Padang, or Continental.
• Ramadan iftar buffets, complete with takjil, live cooking stalls, pizza, BBQ, and ramen corners.
• Weekend BBQ Nights where the Garden Restaurant terrace turns into a grill party under the stars.
These events aren’t just for hotel guests locals often come to enjoy them too, which is proof that the food here has a strong reputation beyond its walls.
Homann’s Food Delivery: Hotel Dining at Home
Another cool thing about Savoy Homann is that you don’t always have to be at the hotel to enjoy its food. With Homann’s Food Delivery, you can order hotel-quality dishes right to your doorstep.
Some popular picks include Ayam Kung Pao, Beef Black Pepper, Salmon Sambal Matah, Chicken Teriyaki, Mac & Cheese Chicken, and Dori Sambal Matah. Prices are surprisingly friendly, starting from around Rp 45,000 per portion. It’s a great option for those days when you’re craving something delicious but don’t feel like going out.

Why the Dining Experience Feels Special
Sure, many hotels serve buffets and à la carte menus. But what makes Savoy Homann stand out is the sense of history and place you get with every bite. You’re not just eating; you’re tasting Bandung’s heritage, Sundanese flavors, and international influences that have flowed through the city for over a century.
Dining here feels less like a meal and more like joining a story that began decades ago one that continues every time a new guest sits down at the table.
Must-Try Dishes for First-Time Visitors
If it’s your first time dining at Savoy Homann, here’s a quick guide to help you make the most of it:
1. Soto Bandung – A local specialty you won’t find done this well anywhere else.
2. Gepuk – Tender, flavorful beef that pairs perfectly with rice.
3. Perkedel Jagung – A simple but satisfying Sundanese favorite.
4. Belgian Chocolate Cake – For dessert lovers, this one’s a classic.
5. Anything from the BBQ Night – Grilled fresh, smoky, and fun to enjoy with friends or family.
Summary
Hotel Savoy Homann Bandung isn’t just a hotel with history it’s also a place where you can eat your way through Bandung’s flavors while enjoying global comfort food. Whether you’re savoring a plate of nasi goreng at the Garden Restaurant, sipping West Java coffee at Batavia Café, or munching on BBQ skewers under the stars, every meal here is memorable.
So, the next time you’re in Bandung, don’t just admire this hotel’s curved façade from the outside. Step in, sit down, and let your taste buds enjoy the same warm hospitality that has charmed guests for more than a century. Because at Savoy Homann, history isn’t only something you see or read it’s something you can taste.
