Pontianak 'Jami Mosque' also known as Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman Mosque is the oldest and largest mosque in Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. This mosque is one of two buildings that signaled the founding of the city of Pontianak in 1771 AD, in addition to the Kadriyah palace. History The founder of the mosque as well as the founder of the city of Pontianak was Syarif Abdurrahman Alkadrie.
He was of Arab descent, the son of Al Habib Husein, a spreader of Islam from Java. Al Habib Husein came to the Matan kingdom in 1733 AD. Al Habib Husein married the daughter of Raja Matan (now Ketapang Regency) Sultan Kamaludin, named Nyai Tua.
