Pacu Jalur, the Kuantan Singingi Tradition from Indonesia that Went Viral and InternationalSocial media has recently been buzzing with viral Pacu Jalur videos, where a small child is seen dancing at the tip of a long boat racing quickly down the river, accompanied by dozens of rowers paddling in unison.

The agile performance of the dancing child captivated netizens and has been described as having "farming aura," a popular term among Gen Z to describe an appealing and charming appearance. The image of a child joyfully dancing at the front of a fast-moving boat has recently gone viral on social media. His charismatic movements have been parodied by netizens from all over the world. That child is Rayyan Arkan Dikha.

The Pacu Jalur tradition, a long boat rowing competition typical of Kuantan Singingi, Riau, suddenly became the focus of the world. The reason is the energetic movements of a child dancer at the end of the boat known as "Anak Coki," who went viral on TikTok and global social media.

This image taken from AF MEDIA Youtube

In that now-iconic moment, Rayyan stood confidently at the tip of a speeding boat barefoot, in traditional dark blue attire, wearing cool black shades, and completely unfazed by the wild paddling behind him. With steady hands, subtle movements, and calm presence, he became an instant legend.

This wasn’t a movie scene this was real life, and it happened during a centuries-old tradition called Pacu Jalur. Let me paint the picture for you. Literally.

Pacu Jalur Goes Viral?
Pacu Jalur is more than just a race. It’s a deep-rooted cultural tradition in Kuantan Singingi, Riau, where long boats  some stretching over 20 meters are crewed by dozens of synchronized rowers. But the real star is the child performer standing right at the front, called the Togak Luan, whose job is to inspire the team and delight the crowd.

Rayyan, just 11 years old, had done this before it wasn’t his first performance. But this time, something magical happened. A video of his calm, graceful dance while the boat sped down the river was posted online and the internet lost its mind.

Within days, the clip exploded. Viewers around the world called it “aura farming” slang for radiating natural charisma and coolness. Rayyan’s poised moves, set against the chaotic paddling behind him, turned him into a global meme, a TikTok trend, and even a cultural icon.

People everywhere from anime fans to athletes began recreating the scene. Even football giants like Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and AC Milan jumped on the trend with parody videos. Formula 1 drivers, influencers, and celebrities joined the fun. Suddenly, the whole world was dancing on imaginary boats.

A Symbol of Culture
Back home in Indonesia, people were amazed and proud. Ryan wasn’t just a cute viral kid he became a symbol of cultural pride. The provincial government of Riau even named him a cultural ambassador, using his popularity to help promote local heritage on a global stage.

And he’s still the same kid. Rayyan goes to school, helps his family, and still practices traditional dances. He had no idea the world would be watching he was simply doing what he loves.

What makes this story so beautiful is how a quiet moment on a river sparked a global conversation about tradition, culture, and youth confidence. Rayyan didn’t need a microphone or a stage. He just needed a boat, a traditional outfit, and the courage to stand tall literally.

So next time you’re scrolling and see a dancing kid in sunglasses on a boat, remember: you’re looking at Rayyan Arkan Dikha from Riau, Indonesia the boy who turned Pacu Jalur into a worldwide trend. That is cool, Huh

The recent story of Juliana Marins, a 26-year-old Brazilian woman who died while hiking Mount Rinjani in Indonesia, has captured the attention of people all around the world. For many, her tragic story feels especially personal  not just because she was young and full of life, but because she was out there doing what many of us love: exploring nature and chasing adventure.

.
Juliana was on a solo backpacking journey across Southeast Asia, visiting beautiful places like the Philippines, Thailand, and finally, Indonesia. She loved to hike, take pictures, and share her experiences online. Her last destination was Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island, a popular hiking spot known for its breathtaking views and challenging trails..
.
On June 21, 2025, during her trek up Rinjani with a group, Juliana reportedly became exhausted and decided to stop and rest. But something went terribly wrong. She slipped and fell into a deep ravine some reports say it was over 300 to 600 meters down. At first, she was still alive. Drone footage taken later showed her moving and trying to get help. It was heartbreaking..
.
Here’s where the story takes an emotional turn. A group of Malaysian hikers, who happened to be nearby, stepped in to help. They used a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone to scan the area and soon found Juliana far below the trail. In a compassionate move, they sent the drone back down with a piece of cloth carrying the word “WAIT”   trying to let her know help was coming. Witnesses said Juliana looked up, showing signs she was still alert. These tourists immediately shared the footage and coordinates with local authorities..
.
Despite this critical information, rescue operations were heavily delayed by poor weather, unstable terrain, and logistical challenges. It wasn’t until June 24 three days after her fall that rescuers finally reached Juliana’s body about 600 meters down the slope.
.
An autopsy in Bali confirmed that Juliana had died from blunt force trauma to her spine, ribs, chest, and limbs, with massive internal bleeding. Doctors believe she likely passed away within 20 minutes of the fall. There was no evidence of hypothermia..
.
The tragedy didn’t end with her passing. Her family and the Brazilian public were furious, believing that Indonesian authorities acted too slowly and that a lack of preparedness might have cost her life. A second autopsy was conducted in Brazil, and the Brazilian Federal Public Defender’s Office (FPDO) launched an investigation into possible negligence..
.
Though some online rumors claimed Brazil would sue Indonesia directly, the facts are more nuanced. Indonesia has not received any formal diplomatic complaint from the Brazilian government. Instead, the FPDO, an independent body, has explored bringing the case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). However, since Indonesia is not a member of the IACHR, such legal steps would be complicated unless both nations cooperate..
.
In response, Indonesian officials said they followed proper procedures and pointed to the extreme conditions on Rinjani. They’ve also offered to conduct a joint investigation with Brazil to ensure transparency. Indonesia’s Parliament (DPR) and tourism authorities support improving safety on popular mountains like Rinjani, urging all hikers to use licensed guides and registered operators moving forward..
.
Juliana’s death has become more than just a tragic accident, it’s now a symbol of the need for stronger safety protocols, faster emergency responses, and better international communication. Her story touched hearts from Indonesia to Brazil and sparked real conversations about accountability and the safety of adventure travel..
.
Let’s honor Juliana not just with words, but by learning from what happened and demanding better preparedness for future hikers. And to Juliana  may your adventurous soul rest in peace. You’ve reminded us how precious life is, and how important it is that help arrives in time when it’s needed most.

Today is not about triumph, but about returning home.
A climber from Brazil was evacuated into eternal silence.
The mountain she once climbed now stands
as a witness to the end of her journey.

Farewell, sky explorer.

Forest and land fires have spread to North Sumatra and West Sumatra. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that forest and land fires (karhutla) have expanded to North Sumatra and West Sumatra.

The Head of the BNPB Center for Data, Information, and Disaster Communication, Abdul Muhari, explained that the karhutla in West Sumatra occurred in Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The fire consumed about one hectare of land in the Nagari Solok Bio-Bio area.

"The forest and land fire (karhutla) occurred in Nagari Solok Bio-Bio, Harau District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province, on Thursday (10/7) at 20:00 WIB," Abdul stated in an official statement on Saturday (12/7).

Extinguishing the fire is difficult because the hotspots are on steep cliffs. The local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) continues efforts to extinguish it," he added.A similar situation also struck North Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra.

According to BPBD data, the total area burned reached 9 hectares across two sub-districts.Abdul stated that the forest fires in the area occurred on Friday (July 11). The fire was successfully extinguished on the same day. He detailed that the fires took place in the villages of Mompang II Simpang and Pasir Ampolu Hopong.

"The fire was successfully extinguished on the same day (July 11), thanks to the coordination between BPBD and the community," Abdul revealed. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) then urged local governments and the community to remain vigilant. Anticipation of forest fires can also be done early by policymakers and other parties.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) also urges local BPBD to deploy effective extinguishing efforts from the start before fire spots occur. "Anticipating forest and land fires early on, the pentahelix elements play a significant role in preventive efforts before fire spots emerge and their wider spread," he said.

According to him, effective extinguishing efforts should be carried out from the outset before fire spots form. Sumatra Island is one of the areas in Indonesia that has a high risk of forest and land fires. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) even predicted an increase in the potential for forest and land fires in 2025.

According to BMKG's explanation in May 2025, medium to high risk of forest and land fires was found in several areas in Riau and North Sumatra during April-May 2025. This risk increased significantly in Riau, North Sumatra, Jambi, and surrounding areas in June. The risk even spread to Kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua from July to September 2025.

Catatan Asep Haryono

Ketiga
Masih ingat Maribeth Pasqua?

Dwi Kewarganeraan

Mana Indonesia mu?.  (Asep Haryono)
