It was in the 7th century that the Rajput clans emerged as the powerful force in this region and conquered many kingdoms. Before the emergence of the Rajputs as a force to reckon with, the region was ruled by Malavas, Kushans, Guptas Hunas and other dynasties.

From 7th to 12th centuries, Rajputs were rulers of this land. During this period many Kings emerged on the land of the horizon. Later, with the coming of the invaders from the Central Asian region, Rajasthan witnessed many battles between invaders and the rulers of different provinces.

Coming of the Mughals saw fierce battles between the different kingdoms in Rajasthan and the Mughal rulers. But it was not easy for the Mughals to gain control of this region as a result Rajputs and Mughals entered a different kinds of agreements. The popular emperor Akbar made friendly relations with kingdoms in Rajasthan, he even married to the Rajput princess in order to make the relations strong and lasting between the two powers.

The rulers and people of Rajasthan are known for their bravery and courage. They preferred death to defeat and this is what made them one of the most fearsome warriors. Even after the coming of the British, they were not subjugated. British signed treaties with different states in Rajasthan to avoid any conflict, as there was not much to gain from the control of the rugged barren land but a lot to lose.
