Be Wise With Your Internet

As we have heard before about fake photo of sukhoi victim which have been uploaded by someone (YS) from Indonesia which have been arrested by Indonesia police a few days ago has been spread all over social network in Indonesia through twitter. This is very interesting thing due to we will never be able to stop flow of information from internet and the network and social media have become part of our life.

Regarding the issue of copy right protection in Indonesia, as internet user like me, and some of you perhaps, we need to be more aware of the online activities which can be considered as "wild" and "unsecured" attempts which can be harm for everyone.

I would not discuss about the advantageous and disadvantageous of the social nework like facebook , twitter , myspace and linkedin as well. I am convince that many of you already had its social media to enhance your performances on the cyber space community these days. The question now is about the attitude and etiquette  of internet users like me in the world of cyber space

As we have know before that the facebook now became one of the most interactive and interesting online media people can use to promote them selves, adding a new friend , requesting time line activity , storing your colorful photogalleries , and making a simple cat with other people all over the world.    I  still remember when I have had a free conference last November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and have listened the general speechs from Randy Zuckerberg, sister of Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the Facebook.

The YES (Youth Engagement Summit)  held in Kuala Lumpur last Novermber 2009, attended by more than 400 young all over South East Asian Countries get together discussing many things regarding the youth role in the future.  I was there as one of Indonesian delegates in the conference, and I was lucky to meet Randy Zuckerberg, sister of Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the Facebook talking about her personal reasons why she joined the facebook company

Sorry for bad image due to I took with a small and simple pocket camera. You cannot see her face clearly but you can her clearly from the screen behind her. Photo by Asep Haryono

She is now one of the most important, pretty and rich women in the world now.  Can you believe it?

Randy Zuckerberg told the audiences of the YES Conference about her personal reasons why she joined in the facebook company handed by her brother, Mark.  According to Randy, many facebook users are from all over the world, and the most fascinating and excellent number of its users were now in the countries in the South East Asia instead of European and middle east.

Let's back again with our topic today about our wise attitude and behavior in the cyber space, in terms of that fake photo accident of the Sukhoi Victims which now sued in the court and potentially charged Billion Rupiahs sentence or 12 years in the jail, so I would like to remind myself to be careful and do wisely in the social network and media as well.

  1. Use Your Own Image or Photos
Try to put your own photo of image by your own digital camera, or your own creation with any drawing tools such as Photoshop, corel, and many other tools.   If you believe by putting your own image can improve your popularity, then you can do it anytime.   If you don't have any photo or image to complete your posting, you can use Google or any images from the Internet by mentioning the author or original resouces where you get the photo.

The Kupu, Dini Hazel Blog , is one of the most original blogger whose photo or images were taken with her own digital camera.  Not many blogger get the same way of hers by now.  I did the same way of The Kupu's here in the field of using the original image however I often used the images taken from other resources like from searching for Google and other resources.

  2. Write Down The Owner or Writer Of Your Article
If you have found a similar photo or image that suit and fits with your idea of your posting, and it is a good idea for you all to put the name of the photographer or the actual resource where you took the photo.   Put the image in original  conditions and avoid to edit or add something to make your photo taken from other resources look belong to you.   Just remember to protect the copy right owner of the images or photos you have taken.

  3. Not To Put Offense Words
Any facebook users and Twitter as well to put some words or sentences in their status.  You have the right to say something or anything in your status for your facebook and twitters but please remember not to use SARA or offense someone else.  Don't fight online.

Some friends of mine telling me that they were not comfortable in reading some posting of status from someone else in the world of facebook and Twitter as well.  In this case, we have to respect what they were saying as they had to responsible for any words or sentences the made.   If you would like to remind something that is right, why don't you tell him or her directly through email, SMS or calling them real soon.  It is a good idea not to put any dispute talk online which can be read by people all over the world.    Be friends online whatever it takes.

There lots of other internet netiquettes that need to be comply with.  However the internet is a free and cheapest media to find for the information and entertainment as well, we will be required to conduct positive and behave properly in terms of intellectual property protection in the cyber world.  Offending someone else or discussing negative things from any accident or weakness of someone are something that you should avoid in anyway what soever.

People could get piss off when reading your article, comments, posting and images you have uploaded in your facebook and twitter account for example.    Try to write good quality contents and producing a standard of positive posting each time you are dealing with the internet and cyber space communities anytime.  Just like you are, I am still learning and learning how to be a good writer and blogger at the same time.  It will not as easy thing as I do, and there will no more difficult things if we learn and improve them.(Asep Haryono)
